Tufnell Park, London

My rented garden in Tufnell Park became a project as soon as I moved in, in November 2020. The previous tenants had lived in the flat for 6 years and hadn’t attempted to keep the space maintained. With only one area for bedding, my main goal was to create a successful container garden and by the second summer I feel I successfully achieved what I set out to do.

This was the only area in the garden that allowed planting in the ground, the soil quality was very poor, it needed several rounds of organic matter and after several months managed to build up the quality of the soil ready for planting. The first year of growing in this area was minimal however by the second year, I managed to create a border using a mixture of herbaceous perennials, biennials and annuals grown from seed. The positive results for the biodiversity in this space was incredibly rewarding, and I just hope the next tenants appreciate the pink!
